Artist’s Statement
While continuing to explore the human figure, i have found that the evolution of my artistic concepts, are parallel to societal stresses, worries, and insecurities, as well as my own feelings in these areas. I have been experimenting with a myriad of materials in an attempt to bring forth these emotions in my art. The recurring theme of transparent materials, in contrast to opaque, is indicative of the fluid nature of the human psyche, versus societal expectations. This is evident in my current work representing the dichotomy between the delicate self, versus industrial society. Although I am very much focused on the figure, my passion lies within the process. This juxtaposition between the soft organic nature of the human spirit and the consumer driven industrial system that pervades our modern work is the inspiration behind my work. The materials I choose to work with exemplify this contrast. Ironically the beauty and appeal of resin is contradicted by its toxic nature. Much like people, there is a duality of positive and negative forces, the meaning of which can be derived by the viewer.
